boca1day liked a post in a topic by dwcfireman in Video of Bus Fire
I remember as a young lad riding the school bus that EVERY student thought that the fire drills were a waste of time (and, secretly the bus drivers would take bets on who could evacuate their buses the fastest!). But, in all seriousness, those plastic seats will take off once there's enough heat energy in that bus. One of the suggested videos at the end this one was a 12 minute video; it starts right after ignition (in the middle of the bus) and is fully involved by the 4 minute mark. 6 minutes in the situation is no longer tenable to life inside. 6 minutes is the mark that NFPA suggests that we arrive on scene. Though the video above shows a bus fire where the point of origin is probably the engine compartment, depending on the situation we have to come up with a different plan of attack. Pertaining to a bus fire, I would like to say that those fire drills pay off and everyone is off the bus and accounted for, that way we can just put the fire out like it was a shed or a sedan on fire.
LayTheLine, I understand what you're saying from a structural point of view. I want to point out that NIST, the ATF, and FDNY have done complex studies with each other to identify the strengths and weakness for different attacks, including the semi-controversial transitional attack, for structure fires. The studies, from what I've seen, don't really touch on vehicles fires, let alone mass transport. The point I'm getting at here is that this is a vehicle fire, where we expect the vehicle to be totaled and cannot be saved, very much unlike a house or apartment building where we can save property. Vehicle fires tend to be a complete loss of property, and we just put out the fire. As for bus fires, we have to treat it as if someone is inside, but there are two important questions that have to be asked before we conduct an interior attack on a bus fire: We have to ask the bus driver if everyone is off the bus, and is everyone accounted for. If the answer to both questions is yes, then we attack the fire in a manner that is safest for us. If either answer is no, then we take the calculated risk of saving a life (but keep it in the back of your mind of how fast that fire has spread and the toxic environment those victims have been exposed to prior to your arrival).
Bus fires are always going to be tricky, just as any vehicle fire. Just remember that we, as firefighters, have three priorities: LIFE safety, PROPERTY loss prevention, and scene STABILITY, in that order!

We did with our first one and had no issues with it. We changed to FireAde 2000 due to a vendor change and significant price increase. We have 5 Husky 3's, a 2013 and (4) 2016s. We also have a Husky 12 that is a 2009. The 12 had some issues over the years so we tried the 3. The only negative I have about the 3 is it won't flow a large gpm of foam product. We have busy interstates 95 & 16 and are just outside the port of Savannah so we have a tremendous amount of truck traffic. We flow "foam" on any fire, our engines have 50 gallon tanks. The FireAde has been great and does wonders with reducing the amount of overhaul required and assists with fire suppression. Our 2 crosslays are 200' of 1.75" that is really 2 1/16". We will be swapping to the true 1.75" hose. We run a 15/16" smoothbore and a low psi combination nozzle on them and we have issues with kinking.

Location: Aproximately 1 mile south-southwest of Shippan Point
District: SFD 4
Battalion: Eastside
Channel: Tac 1
Weather: 86, Partly cloudy
Units: SFD: FB236, E4, E5 (Relocate for fireboat), R1 (Relocate for fireboat), U4 (DC)
SPD: 3B28, TE2, 1C54, 8S3 (Sergeant)
SEMS: M3
Greenwich PD: Marine 139
Noroton FD: Marine 34
Norwalk PD: Marine Unit (Unit # Unknown) crew called back to staff boat
Norwalk FD: Fireboat 238
USCG: Unk Vessel from Eatons Neck
Writer: AFS1970
Description: Multiple phone calls from people on a 12 person fishing boat, reporting male & child overboard, no qualified operators on board. Due to language barrier with callers no vessel location other than Connecticut and no vessel name were able to be obtained. GPS/ALI location for 1 caller showed well inland (likely tower) and one showed location in water. Due to this, the call was broadcast to neighboring towns for any available public safety boat to respond. Siren from Noroton Marine 34 was heard over phone, assisting in locating vessel. Stamford Fireboat 236 located boat and found nobody overboard and all subjects accounted for. Vessel was escorted into marina, EMS transported a child with a minor laceration. Coast Guard responded to pier to meet with vessel operator.

If your staffed properly and everyone does their job you should be able to put the fire out and move before the ticket officer nabs you! Of course you'll have to leave all the overhaul to the truckies.

boca1day liked a post in a topic by SageVigiles in Danbury, CT Police Explorers Fundraiser
The Danbury Police Explorers are currently raising money to fund a new van. Their program is one of the largest in New England, when I aged out we had 75 Explorers; now they are up to about 100 members; however, they only have two 15-passenger vans at their disposal. These young men and women do an incredible amount of work to support DPD and the entire Danbury community; including supporting the Patrol Division with traffic, parking, and/or security details for special events, conducting land searches to support missing persons and other Detective Bureau cases, performing Honor Guard duties at ceremonies, among other duties. On average they support about six events per month, and the program receives very little in terms of funding from the City.
Please consider donating to help these guys get a new vehicle so they can continue to support events in the western CT area:

boca1day liked a post in a topic by lalautze in Some Apparatus Photos From My Recent Los Angeles Trip
Los Angeles City is currently all tillers. They used various snorkel products (squirt, telesquirt, and snorkels in 50ft & 85ft) back in the 60's & 70's in addition to the tillers. Also LAFD occasionally demos other ladders and so far prefers their tillers.
Los Angeles County is currently mostly tiller quints but have one or two front line rear mount quints. They have had an assortment of ladders types over the years with some coming from their acquisition of other fire districts.

Although I cannot speak to the fire side at all, Edgemont could easily continue using Greenburgh Town PD. Many villages in New York have agreements with the Towns that encompass them.
