Maybe the state is planning on using theses trucks the same way NYC DOT uses their trucks as road blocks. Fill one of those up with sand or gravel and you have a roadblock that can go anywhere under it's own power. Prevent car bombs from getting out onto a bridge such as the Whitestone, or you might see these preventing vehicles from entering pedestrian areas of major events to avoid a repeat of last months attack in Berlin.

I agree with nfd2004.  If the Lisbon has never had a truck, then the department isn't accustomed to conducting truck company operations.  Even though their firefighters may have training in truck company ops, simply doing driver training and familiarizing themselves with the rig isn't sufficient to place a new truck company in service.  If they were an existing truck company just getting a new-to-them rig, it would go in service much faster.  In this case, they need to revise their SOP/SOG's.  Evaluate their response order of apparatus.  Train their crews on how truck company operations will be incorporated into their firefighting tactics.  Evaluate how this rig will fit into their mutual aid obligations and how they will interact with whomever used to provide truck company ops for them.  Will they run a dual response for the first few months with their existing truck company provider while they work out their operations.  And finally but not limited to, getting out into their first and eventual second due and setting the thing up at various structures to see how it deploys at various types of structures before they have to do it for real.

    Good morning everyone,

My name is Tim Collins and I am a career firefighter here in Westchester County. I am also a certified Personal Trainer who specializes in functional fitness for firefighters and other First Responders.
As you may know, most firefighting related deaths are due to cardiovascular issues. I am passionate about lowering that number in any manner I can. I would like to offer a free fitness consultation to your department to help your members lower their risk of a cardiac event. The consultation would consist of meeting with you and discussing what fitness equipment you have available, and a tour of your firehouse/police precinct to see what space is available. Next, I would design a workout program based on your department's capabilities and workload demands to help your members improve their abilities and proficiency in regards to physical fitness on the fire ground. Please contact me via cell phone at (914) 329-8406 or email at floorabovefitness@gmail.com. You and your members can also view my Facebook or Instagram pages by searching “Floor Above Fitness” to see daily firefighter fitness workouts.

I have reached to quite a few departments already, but I figured this would be the best spot to let people know about the services I provide.  I work with ALL First Responders.  I have coached people through the CPAT and NYPD JST.  I was formerly a police officer in the Bronx for over 3 years.  If you or anyone you know is applying to upcoming tests (CPAT/JST/PFT), send my info to them.  Though it may seem like I am specifically for firefighters, all 3 services are facing issues of cardiovascular problems, healthy eating, and lack of physical fitness.  I have already worked with the Ardsley Fire Department and they have seen great results!

I have designed a 10 Week Workout Program specifically for the CPAT and do offer personal training sessions.  If you are interested, email me and we can talk.  If you guys have any questions on fitness, eating habits, or anything text/call/email.  Or if you just want free workouts to do at work, they are posted daily on Facebook and Instagram, just search "Floor Above Fitness".

Stay safe everyone and Happy New Year,
    Tim Colins

Civilian exposure to the audible warning devices of emergency vehicles is of very limited duration. These devices are only in use while the vehicle is en-route to an emergency, meaning the vehicle is moving. So, unless the complainers are keeping pace with and driving alongside the emergency vehicle with their window down rather than pulling to the right side of the road and stopping to allow the emergency vehicle to have the right of way, they are not being injured by the noise, just briefly inconvenienced by it.

Another moronic New Yorker without a clue.  Cars and people don't move as it is.  Sounds like a great idea?!?!!!!
  12. EmsFirePolice liked a post in a topic by antiquefirelt in Petition: Lower the volume of Ambulance sirens in New York City
Huh? Why lower the volume when you can just (maybe a law issues) limit the use of the siren to "as needed"? It would seem lowering the volume will result in the siren being ineffective when it's needed (inattentive motorists). I doubt the sirens used in the firetrucks or PD vehicles are any different in output, merely just the use as noted. No doubt this petitioner did not seek any "expert" opinions as to the problem and other solutions.

AMR gained a lot of strength in NY when they merged with and inherited Rural/Metro. That gave the EMS and transport operations in Buffalo and Rochester.

AMR has come and gone in the metro area over the past couple decades.  I don't believe they still have operations in the NYC area.  They're pretty strong on the West Coast, and in CT as well.  And AMR gobbled up a lot of the smaller ambulance providers in the New England area in the late 1990's as their growth strategy at the time.

As far as the posted Paramedic positions open in the areas they are, I don't believe they have any infrastructure set up yet that may be premature.

I believe Empress EMS is the superior provider, and is much more invested in providing EMS then AMR would be.

It will be interesting to watch.  I was told 30 years ago that there will be no more small apparatus manufacturers in the next 10 years and then there was ALF. Yes it was poor management but away went Becker, RD Murray and 3-D. Then there was PenFab from years ago that took Hahn head on and decided to just do a chassis and cut down on overhead with the engineering etc. they stayed around for 35 years. Then Howe and Oren became Grumman and they are gone.
The trick isn't getting bigger to grow more profit it really comes down to good communications between the truck committee and the salesman. Then the salesman has to have a consistent contact at the plant to transfer the committees thoughts to engineering get it on paper and an engineered drawing. Then do the process all over with the committee to see if it is laid out they way they want it and then back to engineering.
So it sometimes comes down to the personal within the organization to make things grow which will lead to the quality of the product.
They are both  good products so you just have to wish them well and keep your fingers crossed.

  22. EmsFirePolice liked a post in a topic by x635 in Philly LODD Prompts Lawsuit Against Fire Equipment Manufacturers

I did some reading up on this article, and I'm curious as to why Philadelphia FD is not held liable in this lawsuit  (although maybe it is a separate lawsuit....her family has been requesting criminal charges against the FD). Maybe because they don't have as deep of pockets as the manufacturers as aforementioned in the thread. The NIOSH report is not yet out, but here are some snippets I found in articles from reputable online sources and Philadelphia FD quotes strongly suggesting the Air-Pak may not have been the issue:

-An inexperienced ladder crew took 18 minutes to respond. Ladder 8’s late arrival delayed the start of much needed ventilation. Receipt of the LODD Report may have shed light on the impact that the “Firefighter Rotation Policy” had on Ladder 8’s response time to the specific fire at 1655 Middleton Street.  Nevertheless, a review of Ladder 8’s roster showed that firefighters on duty that morning may have been unfamiliar with the community and their first alarm district.
-The team with whom Craig entered the rowhouse got separated, leaving her alone inside after they were overcome by smoke and heat and ordered to withdraw.
-The blaze that killed Craig was the sort firefighters dread: a basement blaze in tight quarters with paneled walls (paneling burns fast and hot).
-As other firefighters have said, Craig was pulled from the house 17 minutes after her first Mayday alarm sounded, when firefighters found her by chance.
-Bright said she's unsure why her mask collapsed. She thinks, in hindsight, that she should have opened her air bottle more.
-Meanwhile, a radio dispatcher had spent several minutes trying to ascertain Craig's status.
"Any information on the emergency button?" he asked around 3:06 a.m., according to the dispatch transcripts.
"Still waiting on an explanation of the Mayday button," he said again over the radio at 3:08, the transcripts show.
-Craig was found slumped near a window in the home's kitchen, sitting on the coiled-up hose.
-In an interview last week, Craig's coworker Nyree Bright described a chaotic and confusing fire scene in which Craig's Mayday alarm went unheeded, and those who could have rescued her were not told she was missing.
-Deputy Chief Rich Davison, the author of the incident review report, wrote that Deputy Commissioner Jesse Wilson - the department's second-in-command - had asked for redactions and explained his request with the suggestion that "some statements in the critique could hurt the city," according to a copy of the entry obtained by The Inquirer.

It's terrible. Horrible...and tragic the outcome of this fire and RIP to FF Craig, but go after the manufacturers seems kind of moot.  When you have a cluster of an incident such as this, no material equipment in the world is going to save you nor is it designed to if used improperly.
