Yesterday, I had the privledge of attending Bedford Hills FD's Open House/Fre Prevention Day. They put on a great event for the public where they had multiple different oppurtunities to learn about fires, how to prevent them, and what to do if there is one. They also gave tours of their newly renovated and expanded firehouse.
I was also able to tour their new firehouse, which, as always with BHFD, is awesome and very well thought out.

I took the picture with my iPad, but the information came from Mike Leary, a well known Fire Photographer in CT. Unfortunately I do not have a "before" shot to show you, but just take my word for it.
This 1970 International / Ansul was originally quartered with Engine 16 (Lighthouse Point) and was moved to Tweed-New Haven Airport when they first had firefighters on staff there. Its original designation was Fox 1. Tweed has gotten some much more modern apparatus since then and it was taken out of service a while ago.
Sometime last year it was brought to NHFD's shops last year sometime to be refurbished. I saw it when I was down at the Fire School for a live burn and it was in sad shape. I don't believe the NHFD mechanics did the paint or striping but there was a lot of body/mechanical work to be done. Since the refurb the rig has been renumbered as Car 44 and its currently quartered in the Training Support Building at the New Haven Fire School along with the NHASH Team Prime Mover and Decon Trailer. It may be relocated later on but no details as to where yet.
I carries somewhere in the area of 400-500lbs of Purple K Dry Chem. Personally I think it came out pretty awesome.

This past weekend we had the honor to ride these Tuckahoe PD MC unit folks around on our boat around the Hudson for a bit. More info about the boat: www.launch5.com
Det. Fred Cioffi (Last person on the right) while on duty in 2009 was struck by a tractor trailer and seriously injured, Det Cioffi has had 6 major surgeries in the last 3 1/2 years and will have another surgery this coming week, the amount of pain and suffering Det Cioffi has endured is overwhelming. Please keep Det Cioffi in your prayers this week. Det Cioffi has been a very pro-active impressive member of the Tuckahoe Police Dept. It was a GREAT honor to have Det Cioffi and the members of Tuckahoe Police Motorcycle Unit on Launch 5. The level of professionalism, pride and dedication of the of these Police Officers to the people of Tuckahoe and the State Of New York reflects on the entire Tuckahoe Police Force.
(The man driving is also apart of the Tuckahoe PD MC unit.)

Any questions feel free to ask, again it was an honor to have all of them on the boat, hope to see him up and riding again soon.

I visited DCFDEMS and thier museum at "Columbia" Engine 3 last summer. They run 33 engines (sequential numbers), 16 trucks (numbered 2 through 17), three rescue squads, a hazmat unit with 2 hazmat suppoirt units, a air unit, brush fire unit, 2 fireboats, 2 foam units, 2 tacs, a command rig, the heavy crane wrecker, a canteen and a rehab unit as their "front line" fire apparatus. EMS has 39 ambulances.
    Engine 52 is a hose wagon and carries thier five inch hose. If I remember correctly its about 2000 feet carried. It is station at "Columbia" Engine 3 which is across the street from the "Billy Goat" (great little bar) and not far from the Capitol Building. Now there are six "water supply hose wagons" with one assigned to each of the six battalions. They were manned by the engine company where they are housed in but they can be picked up by another company if the assigned engine company is out on another call. They are the standard DCFD engines just with five inch hose on them. There was talk of fully staffing them 24 / 7 after some pretty significant incidents over the years or at least runing them as a two-piece engine company to all alarms in thier districts. Here are the locations;
    Battalion 1 - Engine 12 has WS Engine 51
    Battalion 2 - Enigne 3 has WS Engine 52
    Battalion 3 - Enigne 19 has WS Engine 53
    Battalion 4 - Engine 11 has WS Engine 54
    Battalion 5 - Engine 21 has WS Engine 55
    Battalion 6 - Engine 16 has WS Engine 56
(Notice the last number of the WSE co-insides with the Battalion number)
DCFD/EMS was traditionally a two-piece engine company (the engine and the hose wagon) due to the lay out of the city. Many of the residential and commercial structures have rear alleyways between the blocks. So when responding, the Engine Comapny hose wagon would lay into the ally way with the engine taking the hydrant while the next due engine and hose wagon would take the front of the building. This was done because of access problems. Though they do not have the traditional two-piece engine companies of yesteryear, they still operate this way by sending an engine into the alleyway and an engine to the front. I think the alleyway engine also has a engine at the hydrant to feed it.
I though I had posted some pictures from my visit to "Columbia" Engine 3 and the fire museumb here on the forum but the thread may be archived. I have to search for it again.
Also the reason I call Engine 3 "Columbia" is because the company traces its roots back to the original "Columbia Engine Company No. 3" of the old volunteer days. this comapny was in charge of protecting the Captiol area. Engine 3 is one of three original fire comanies in DC that have transitioned from the volunteer force into the current career force. The fourth was Truck 1 which was housed at Engine 3 until it was disbanded during the 1980s / 1990s. Also there is talk of erecting a new firehouse for Columbia Engine 3 and giving thier current firehouse over to the fire museum which currently occupies the third floor of the building.

  24. 210 liked a post in a topic by Just a guy in Shooting death of handcuffed man in patrol car ruled a suicide
ok conspiracy commandos let's hear it, what do you think the police did wrong this time ?
Unless you have extensive experience searching people in an arrest situation and finding and not finding hidden contraband on them then you would not be able to accurately say that something " isn't right."
People flip their cuffs all the time, cops miss hidden contraband on people all the time. the weapon in this case was a .380, anyone who knows guns knows how small a .380 is and how easy it is to conceal.
An a** crack and the crotch area can conceal almost anything, most certainly a .380
This is nowhere near the first time a person has committed suicide with a handgun that was missed during a search while in custody.
We have all seen the video of the man in San Bernadino California that made it into the interrogation room of the sheriff's office with a .45 in his waist and shot himself in the head. The guy in CA wasn't handcuffed but this story shows the mindet of people in custody.
In Jauary in Georgia a prisoner snuck a gun into the jail in his rectum and in May a prisoner that had been searched multiple times in Dallas was found to have a handgun in his crotch only after he was transferred to another facitlity. Just last week, a guy got a gun into a jail in nashville and it fell to the floor out of his pants in front of the judge that was booking him.
A further look into this case shows that there was a text on the perps who asking a guy to bring him a gun. The text was from earlier inthe day that he dealt with the cops. The perp called his girlfriend from the back of the radio car and said he had a gun and that he was scared. There were multiple civilian witnesses that said that the doors and windows of the RMP were all closed and that nobody was around it ( cops of civilians) when they heard the shot ring out and saw the cops go over to the car.
Sorry to burst the conspiracy bubble but there really is nothing here other than a drug dealer who was armed with a gun that wasn't smart enough to admit it to the cops when he was caught and decided to take the easy way out.
