Even though he may have been 'emotionally disturbed' up to that point in time. I'll assume he knew right from wrong. As soon as he pointed that weapon at the P.O./Trooper he became a common criminal. And was rightfully dispatched.

Does being despondent about a life changing event, such as a divorce, really make one an EDP?
Or was there a HISTORY of mental illness?

I LOVE IT! I am a big E-One fan, and a bigger "truck" fan, so this is a nice fit.
We also run a 2006 HP75, and while it is nice, we are certainly handicapped by the shortfall of the "just" 75' stick. As I have mentioned in the past, even though the majority of our fires are in SFD, the setback from the road is what kills us. That extra 25 feet would come in handy on more than 1 fire that I can immediatly recall.

I went on the fire dept in 1975. I didn't know anybody. I thought I made a mistake taking the job. I thought these guys in the firehouse hated me. But I found out in a short time that it was actually the opposite. Very strong friendships developed. Actually, we all seemed to enjoy the attention. Name calling, joking, verbal abuse was all part of the firehouse. When one of us needed help at home for whatever reason, those guys were right there. It didn't matter who you were.
Things started to change in the mid 90s. You couldn't say things that we used to say. There was a change in the overall firehouse atmosphere. Life in the firehouse changed. Suddenly we were like kids in school being told what we could say and what we couldn't say.
Those guys that busted my stones years ago get together for a Country Breakfast once a month now. We act the same way as we did back in the 70s and 80s at the firehouse kitchen table. The other people in the restraunt get a free comedy show when we're all there. Our mannerism doesn't seem to bother those people in that restraunt and it certainly doesn't bother us.
I'm just glad I got a chance to have a great group of guys give me plenty of verbal abuse over the years. And I gave it back too.

The judiciary just can't seem to stop meddling in the affairs of the emergency services. First Garaufis (sp) stymies recruitment for years and now Freed wants to control apparatus and maintenance. And beyond the FDNY you have Sheindlin curbing stop, frisk and question. There are an awful lot of judges out there, on every level, local to the supremes, who legislate from the bench. Its long been a disturbing trend that seems to occur more and more frequently. I must have missed the memo advising that attainment of the bench gives you the ability to know what's best for everyone else regardless of any factual information to the contrary.

Orange County's policy is that if an EMS agency or fire department misses a call, for the remainder of the twelve hour period (6A-6P) or (6P-6A), the mutual aid agency is toned out at initial dispatch
Maybe Westchester should adopt something similar

the problem with PTSD is that it's most commonly diagnosed in the military and it is pretty much dismissed in the emergency services. I would bet that there are a ton of people that suffer from PTSD in the emergency services fields that go untreated.

got a few of the graphics today for approval, the ribbons are for our Assistant Chief Jason Whaley, 36 who passed away early this year from cancer, Jill Caldarelli, 55 life member of both the fire company and rescue squad and was a current board of director member and Randy Ackerman, 57, life member was a current board member and past President and brother of Jill Caldarelli, they both passed away over the last few months. It's been a tough year for a small department like ours and as the truck committee chairperson and past Chief I wanted to ensure that the three members that passed during the construction of the new engine were not forgotten. Also a graphic logo I designed to honor all of our members that have passed away prior. The graphics were done by RJ Marx from Appleton, WI., they did the blue beast above as well.

I agree with all the posts before me who said this is not Affirmative Action, it is blatant racism in its worst form. If it is condoned by your higher-ups then I don't see why you could not file an EEOC against those higher-ups.

Would have been a lot nicer if they used the same style numbering and left the "Nodine Hill" on the front over the windshield!!! It looks way too bland now... From the look you'd never know just how many fires that rig went to over the years...

Yonkers Engine 306, a 1992 Mack CF, the actual last one to be produced by Mack, has returned to Yonkers after a spa treatment, and it's looking good! It currently holds the designation Engine 298, and is a reserve piece.
For those Mack fans keeping track, it is chasis # CF688FC 1460. Delivered August 1992 from Mack's Allentown, PA plant.
Photo by me, taken this morning. A very special thanks to ALL those on duty at YFD Station 8.

Lets also not forget the response of the career depts to Pleasantville when the rear wall detached from a building on Manville Rd. The career depts have repeatedly shown they are fully capable of playing nice in the sandbox. Its time we focus on getting the job done right rather than getting everyone involved with the job.
