. Correct me if iam wrong but I thought he used four handguns to comitt the horrible act and the rifle was left in the car.Definition of ASSAULT WEAPON: any of various automatic or semiautomatic firearms; especially : assault rifle
Definition of ASSAULT RIFLE
: any of various automatic or semiautomatic rifles with large capacity magazines designed for military use
Definition of MILITARY
: of or relating to soldiers, arms, or war
(all from www.merriam-webster.com)
Further more it can be defined as a semi-automatic rifle or shotgun with 1 or more military style attachments. Pretty clear to me.
2. Magazines that do hold 5 rounds to exist
AR-15: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/MAG-052
If you think the death toll at Sandy Hook would have been the same had Lanza had a 10 round magazine as opposed to a 30 round magazine then you are delusional.

What really is mind boggling about some of these posts is how people can perceive the yfd of going after empress when in fact it is empress who is trying to take all control over the 1st responder program which would result in the possibility of the yfd losing several fire companies. Can someone explain to me what empress would lose (not gain) if the system would remain the same? Thanks!

What ever happened to the days where all members of emergency service could all get along for the most part? It's us that have to work together in life and death situations. Not mayors or management. Stop falling into the trap. They really don't care about us.

where were the ladders?? I Hope all is well with the brothers but how about placement of ladders? Is it the fact that Kingston FD is understaffed? Once again just asking a few questions. Gladd Everyone is ok
Placing ground ladders for egress takes manpower. Something they don't have up there.

Today, I happened to see a westchester county fd chiefs vehicle parked at a mall in Connecticut. Not naming the dept. Wouldn't it serve the town better if it was left in its district with someone else taking over command rather then 30 minutes away from its district? Running errands in nearby towns seems somewhat justifiable but 30 minutes out of state seems somewhat excessive to me. Unless of course it was conducting dept business rather than Christmas shopping. And trust me they were shopping. Lol. Any thoughts?

Yet NYC gets almost 8 years out of their Chiefs vehicles
batt 2 has 53,000 miles on it already in just under three years. Does anyone know what the average is for miles put on a fdny batt in say a year? I heard the old batts were a little too big in length for the tight streets and the tahoes may be a better fit for their needs. Any they averaged 3 mpg on top of that. Lol.

Any other thoughts on these systems? Are most of the Depts. out there getting them?
All of the devices/systems out there accomplish the same task in the end. It really comes down to personal preference but more important is outfitting yourself and your dept sooner than later. Whatever you decide to choose now, a new and improved device will probally be developed in the near future anyways. Just an example, We (FIrst Due Training) recently trained the entire Newark NJ FD this past summer and they chose the f-4 device, fire tech rope, stored in a lumbar bag with the crosby hook. Inbox me if you have any other questions!

Why in the world would you try to flee and then assault a police officer for being stopped for traffic violations? Were the bikes unregistered, unisured, stolen, warrants out on these guys? Or is this a weekend ritual amongst these street biker clubs.

Saw mill parkway s/b suffered severe damage to road surface from the water main break. Going to be a commuting nightmare until they fix it.

Shame on the mayor. Pay your employees what they deserve and maybe you wont have the turnover. Although they recieved good contracts in the past 10year years they should get more. Such a smart man couldnt see this coming when employees in mcdonalds were making more and hiring standards were lowered.

Seems like wpix is the only news media that is willing to uncover and report the truth. Unlike lohud and snooze12.

Going to miss you A-ROD! And so are the citizens of yonkers. You were a true professional at your job and most of all a gentleman in life.

sorry for the confusion. I was referring to two companies in yonkers, tl71 and l 74 on how they work well together.I agree it looks like they did a great job, a fire that could've easily gotten out-of-control.
As a former White Plains resident I am a bit confused. If the IA is correct it looks like the initial engine company assignment was Engs. 66 and 67. Normally the assignment would be (I think) Engs 65, 70 and possibly 71. So that sounds like something was else was going on at the same time on the south side of White Plains.
If I can ask a question without ruffling any feathers, the IA shows Eng 71 was requested by 2512 at 12:28 PM, two hours after WPPD first requested that Fire respond. As far as I know Eng 74 is North White Plains.

Great knockdown wp! Leaving the engine along side the hydrant and having two ladders sandwich it works great especially in narrow streets. Closer stretch and both sides of house covered. 71 and 74 are usually great with coordinating with which way they are responding. Great jop wp once again!

A hydrant within 1000 feet is what gives you a discount if any.

Guy I work with lives in Hempstead. One day he gets a call from another guy at the firehouse that he thinks his building is on fire, very similar to this one. Large NFP apt building 6 stories. Guess what, they put that one out too. They get a lot of people to turn out. They get more fire duty than Yonkers and know how to work it out with other depts to get help early. My old MX partner was a Chief there, half the place is like Purchase the other half like Mogadishu.
Guys at work always talk about who is going to fires and blah blah blah. Same answer always rings true, Spring Valley, Hempstead, and Selden/Wyandanch.

Exactly! I've seen guys in the past that aced the physical aspect of the test and write a 82% on the written part which placed them around 118 on the final list. They never got reached. Typically, most if not all of the yfd ff hiring list ive seen or heard in the past 20 yrs lasted for a 4 yr duration. Excluding legal issues, budget issues and politics aside. I've seen lists reach candidates who were ranked in the 60's as well in the low 100's. Most lists typically see two classes hired off of it in the four year duration. Time will tell. Good luck!!
