One of the largest problems that westchesr's fire service has is the duplicate of services, this would only make the problem worse. This is quite the oposite of Consolidation.
White Plains has a foam trailer and correct me if I'm wrong, yonkers has a foam unit.
Both Somers and Yorktown have dive/scuba teams. Somers went mutual aid to mamaroneck last summer. Does Mt. Pleasant PD still have a dive team?
County Hazmat, Montrose VA and numerous other resources throughout the county already provide this serivce. Not to mention Empress SOD
Yonkers has a fully equiped Colapse Rig and USAR trailer. Plus, the county already has a highly skilled tech rescue team that has a decent response time.

These are Palm Beach Fire-Rescue trucks, staffed by Firefighter-Paramedics, not ambulances. Not all of them are being reduced to a 2 man crew, but many are. The Firefighters union has publicly stated that service will suffer, which of course it will, so your statement about "everyone involved" is also incorrect.
How is it that you can be down there in Florida and get this so wrong, and I can be up here in New York, and learn all of this in a 3 minute Google search? Why did I strongly suspect after reading your post that it was factually incorrect and that if I did a Google search my suspicion would be verified? Why do you think the situation in Palm Beach is at all relevant to what is now happening in Yonkers?

I'm not sure I like the part near the end of the video where after the interior rooms are knocked down, an exterior hand line is shown being directed at the structure while personnel are still working inside.

ZAKA (the agency in the article) generally is responsible for identifying and burying people and body parts from terrorist attacks. The vehicle pictured in the article does not appear to be an ambulance. It does appear to be a vehicle used to respond to a terrorist incident and transport the dead and body parts for identification and burial. The vehicle may be equipped with a light and siren package. It is certainly not a "911" ambulance being used to transport the bride to the wedding. The "911" functions in Israel are covered by MADA and Hatzolah. ZAKA does not serve as a "911" agency in Israel. In fact, the slogan on the side of the van says, "true kindness", which is a phrase used to describe kindness to those who have already passed away as they have no chance to repay the favor.

I thought that too at first..but isn't saving a life or helping someone in need positive whether it's sad or not?

With what those guys see and with what goes on down there, I think that this is great. Gives the members a chance to do something positive.

As someone who is relatively new to the "amateur" radio scene, as well as a member of WECA -
We do maintain a public safety liaison with DES. I am far too new to know the details of how that unit responds to emergencies, if at all. I will check on it and get back to you all.
Ham radio is still a growing hobby, and there are many opportunities within to gain experience in emergency radio communications, such as RACES, ARES, Skywarn, and even MARS. WECA hosts a training session at the County Center every month that includes these topics, and others such as military communications, digital radios, etc. The folks there are very knowledgeable, and come from a wide variety of backgrounds - including public safety.
Most hams are well aware of proper operating procedures (we have to take a very detailed test to get a license) and would never interfere with public safety communications on any level. I wouldn't quite call it paralleling - perhaps redundancy
Please contact me if you have any questions about amateur radio or its role in public safety.

I'm sure county OEM knows what it does and their capabilities. From past experiences in other areas they are only used when systems are extremely stressed or in the event of catastrophic events where other HAM operators will or may still be functioning to have communications to areas where infrastructure is damaged or destroyed.
At least you sparked my interest to see whats on the link given. Otherwise...ask someone at the county if you're really that interested.
