Hey Ed glad to see you have joined the ranks of us retirees. First worked together at Western Electric with you and Gene. Then I joined the YFD and you guys at Yonkers Dispatch. I was always glad to hear your voices on the other end of the line when responding to any incident because I knew myself and my crew were in good hands. Always professional and always thinking ahead. Thanks for your calmness and assistance when everything was going sideways. Good luck in your retirement.  J Max retired YFD.

My Co. has had a KME engine for a little over 2 years.  With 25k miles and almost 4k hours, I can say it's held up well.  I typically believe the builder has less to do with the quality of the apparatus and the Spec is key...However, the Truck in my quarters is a Ferrara, and it's junk.  Assembly and fit/finish is far superior in the KME product.  More care was taken in running wires and assembling compartments.

All in all....The KME rig is a good one and the company has been quick to address issues and then taken preventative steps on the rest of the fleet.  We must have about 100 of these engines by now and I haven't heard much grumbling from the shops.

During the 1970s, my brother and I were Volunteer Firefighters in Fairfield, Ct. It was a combination department of career and volunteer firefighters that got along very well together. Many of us as volunteers, were encouraged to become career firefighters and the fact is that many of us did just that. Some are retired now and rose through the ranks quickly.

The Fairfield Fire Dept was ALWAYS very progressive in their thinking. EMT was encouraged when the term first came out and the Fairfield FD was one of the first in Connecticut to assume responding to medical emergencies. The use of air packs was another area in which the department emphasized to both it's career and volunteer firefighters, how important using them was long before todays everyday use.

The Fairfield FD covers a large area which includes the very busy I-95, Merritt Parkway Rte 15, a large shoreline, many condos, large single family homes, office buildings and a busy commuter railroad.

My brother and I are still very THANKFUL for all that the Fairfield FD taught us. We had fun and those career firefighters pushed us to do the right thing.

I just hope the younger people of today get the same opportunity that so many of us had. The Fairfield FD gave us all a great start and NONE of us have forgotten that.

So I rpobably just don't understand this, but what is the point of having civil service status employees for the Town of Patterson if they are only going to be part time. As far as I'm aware, only full time employees of a municipality need to be civil service. Then again, I guess this does mean they are going to get $20 from everyone who wants to apply for the job.

What always gets me about Greenwich is that they are one of the wealthiest communities in the entire nation. How they can not afford to properly staff an engine is beyond me.

Are we really trying to make an issue on this ?   Did you write this from your safe space?  If you have a problem with the way the chief spoke why don't you take a drive to talk to him.  And I'm sure he'll tell you to get the f*** outta his office.  If you're not gonna do that I suggest you stop being a keyboard warrior and focus on something else that matters more

HR56 ran about 500 runs last year is what i read in a statistic report. They respond on every Physical rescue, USAR, Major emergency(second alarm and greater).  Also can be special called by the IC if needed. Yes, they are staffed 24/7 with an Engineer and FF both highly trained in operations.

Do not try an introduce open-mindedness, common sense or any attempt to try to get to the bottom of this story. It will delay the mob mentality response, which must proceed unabated! Flying off the handle at the slightest slight, real, perceived or completely imagined, is the way to get things done!

  21. boca1day liked a post in a topic by COH Bulldog in Arlington FD Bans Flags on Fire Apparatus
We have small flags on the back of our engines. They are small enough that they do not interfere with any operation of the apparatus (hose deployment, lights, etc.). I agree with the comments above that maybe some people are getting a little carried away with the size of flags being used.
  22. boca1day liked a post in a topic by Bnechis in Arlington FD Bans Flags on Fire Apparatus
I have read on a number of sites the backlash, almost all based on the board being unpatriotic or trying to be PC.

Beyond, what the board reported as being a safety issue, no one knows what the motivation is.

But, I have witnessed, flags getting larger and larger on the back of rigs, to the point that we are disrespectful of the flag.

On engines, I have witnessed hose being laid over a flag that's so large that without wind or driving it hung below the level of the bed.

On ladders, I have witnessed grease and tattered ends on the flag where it whips against the turntable gear. I have also seen where it rubs on ground ladders as they are moved in and out of the ladder tunnel.

On all rigs, I have seen filthy flags, because the dirt that swirls around the rear of the rigs.

On the safety side, I have seen them hiding flashing safety lights, turn signals and break lights. Saw one get burned by high intensity flood lights and have seen firefighters grabbing the flag to help them climb the rig.

This is not patriotic, nor is it how the flag should be respected! I am not saying they should be removed, but consider how we are displaying them.
