Isn't the money from Rye Brook half what PC was getting. And that contract comes up for renewal next year. There will be other options considered by Rye Brook.

BINGO !!!
Getting a new rig for the current chief's company (engine 60 aka Reliance E&H) was one of the many stupid reasons for the layoff. I truly believe the layoffs will come back to haunt them if not soon, definitely later. BTW, they're using the other paid rig, eng 59, for a spare.

P.S.
Kelly's in Rye is always an option. Lol.
Personal pizza at Tarry Lodge, Chef's salad or cheeseburger at Kelly's

It's all B.S created by a bunch of sensationalists.
There were volunteer firemen marching alongside their career brethren.
More fodder from the so-called printed media.

Both Rye and Mamaroneck Village had/has fireboats in the past. Obviously Rye FD doesn't anymore. Anyone know if MFD still has theirs, and is it in service?

my concern is the lack of a tandem axle. that much less weight distribution, and less braking. its a new model, some departments will jump on it to be "the first one on the block." I'll take a flier on it for a couple of years.

I figured it was Ed's work. The pictures are beautiful, but his work is even better in person.

think it's done. shame.
brookfield won't even let anybody take stuff off like lights, emergency lighting, etc.
probably a liability issue with non-workers in the work area.

Just a taxpayer (Frost025) of Port Chester wondering why the politicians say there's no money for career staff, but plenty of money for a new rig ? Is the current R40 that worn out or beat up ? Just wondering.

Most municipalities have strict rules to protect themselves from liability and grievances. While the fire chief's son could be treated like anyone else in reality, just a mere perception can create problems. Most of the time it's something petty and stupid, not the big promotion or preferential assignments. But, in reality, does the Lt. worry he cannot discipline this FF in the same manner as he would otherwise? Can the crew complain about admin without offending the bosses son? Why did he didn't he get forced for OT? The list of ways for other firefighters to be aggrieved is endless, add in that you're closely related to a boss and that just multiplies.
You make some good points.
This same scenario exists in the City of Rye FD. To his credit, the volunteer chief lets the career Lt. do his job regarding the career staff. And, how many father-son teams are there in the FDNY which involve the father an officer and the son a firefighter. Yes, they're usually assigned in different houses, but sometimes in the same battalion. The powers that be in Peekskill saw the injustice and went with good common sense. I hope everything works out.

Once again politics rears it ugly head.
The hiring of the chief's son,IMO, should be celebrated, The fire service has a always been a family. Sounds like the chief ruffled a few feathers, so this is the payback.

If you've got both drivers, you remove the pin and bingo, you're into a TDA. Best of both worlds; however, I can't speak to the maneuverability when the pin is in. Cool video anyhow. Watch it again and see how the rear of the TDA just misses the garbage can on the right side of the road. Looks like inches!!
The pin is there for delivery of the apparatus and taking it for maintenance not for responding to an emergency. Without a tillerman, all the advantages of a TDA are lost.

TDA's are the best when it comes to maneuvering, no question about it. I concur with Firelt, a MM would probably make the swing. I myself could never see the advantage of a RM Bucket vs the MM. But then again, my experience is only with a TDA and a MM. Maybe those who have experience with the RM can enlighten us.

The craziest part of the whole plan would have been the closest firehouse to the call responded, despite municipal boundaries could you imagine that ?????
Bingo.
Consolidation was a great idea, so great, it wasn't implemented. Why? Archaic NYS laws. Remember Westchester2000, that large loose leaf book that resulted from an expensive study. Made a pretty good door chock.
Isn't the SFD station in question closed due to structural problems ?
