It's simple logic; For example, here's this morning's conversation with my wife:
Me: What's your plan for today, Hon?
Wife: Well, the hamper is full again.
Me; OK, I'll go get you a bigger hamper
  3. billy98988 liked a post in a topic by Newburgher in After two ambushes, Newburgh PBA wants more support from city council
The PD rides with one officer per car usually. The Mayor and a Council Member even attended the rally. The politicians routinely support the criminals more than the PD and FD. Two council members publically, on TV, declared the Officers involved in the shooting guilty, before the investigation even began. The Grand Jury found no wrong doing, but these scumbags continue to demand the Officers lose their jobs. These spineless politicians continually yes them, and let them get away with derailing council meetings, stop traffic, block off whole streets without any kind of consequences.
This last week, with the two (so far) mob ambushes have resulted in 5 officers injured, a police dog injured by a thrown brick, and several PD cars, a Chiefs's car, and a pumper damaged. The animals stormed headquarters and the police station (same building) and threatened the crews with more violence. No wide spread round-up of these criminals is allowed. The Officers present are, rightfully so, afraid to use any kind of force, and the only person arrested Monday night ( the ringleader) was released and given an apology by the judge as soon as he appeared before the bench. No bail, ROR. Business as usual for this judge, and no way to remove him. This city is in the porceline roller coaster and spinning faster.

We face liability in everything we do. Why don't man-up on auto alarms, reset the alarm system and advise the RP as you say.
There's Liability if we stay and wait for the RP, Liability if we reset and leave.
The Gamewell box system hit the streets in the late 18oo's, and FireMEN have been resetting systems ever since until you and your city attorney got a brainstorm that a no touch policy will get you off the iability hook.
Wrong! If anything happens, and I do mean anything, somebody might wind up suing you. If you are right of wrong, it is still going to cost you money. And your city attorney? He is often in his position because he was unable to start or buy into his own practice. In a couple of years he will save enough money to go into private practice and will "jump the fence." He will be the one suing you and taking your money.
Maybe we should stop calling ourselves "The Bravest."

The comprehensive information is extremly detailed and very in-depth, and covers just about every aspect of FDNY's operations. In fact, it is also even distributed to FDNY members for study and reference.
The book also features photos from our own Joe Pinto.

I have often complained about this orginazation mostly because they really fail to work as part of the system. They basically do as they please and seem to get away with everything they do.
BUT it is hard to see what they did wrong here. They were dispatched to a legitimate emergency. They like a lot of other volunteer corps are equipping personal vehicles to meet the required standard which allows them to respond with red lights and sirens. Maybe this is past frustration coming through or we have only part of the story. Personally I feel for the cop put in a bad situation here.

Just to give you more background. We have had a formal live-in program for approx 25 years. We had a non-formal program going back to the 70's.
I participated for 2.5 years and would never look back and regret it. When I lived-in we had about 12 live-ins and about 6 other transient live-ins for 18 guys at almost any given time. There was NOTHING we could not accomplish. At the time we ran 2 engines, 2 ambos, and the truck. It was not uncommon for us to triple pull on the initial alarm. At the time we had very few home responders. We currently have 7 live-ins and a large contingency of home responders, because several of us from years past have bought homes in town. Over the years, We have made boys into men and taught many of them important life skills that their parents handled, we even helped several get their drivers license. It is a true pleasure to make a positive impact on a young mans / womans life and show them that they can be successful.
The experience the live-in members have received from the program have been instrumental in them getting hired in other agencies such as: DC FIRE, Frederick VA, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Hampton Co Va, Howard Co MD, Bainbridge Island Washington State, and even in FLA. Take away the out of state career agencies, because of the reputation we have, it has helped MANY of our members with MANY other opportunities and jobs in various trades and EMS agencies locally. It is very much worth it.
If you can post it in your firehouses for some of the young guys that are looking for a career and better opportunities in life, tell them to call or email us. The email is wrong on the info sheet. membership5@mvfd5.com is the correct email.

If we had to say there is a down side to being part of the Fire Serrvice this would be it. I was a member of the Yonkers Fire Department for almost 29 years and I can say with certainty that you burry too many friends before their time. However to go along with that is one of my sayings I used all the time. Everything in life is give and take, therefore if it were not for the Fire Service I would not have made so many Good and Close friends over the last 29 years. I had the pleasure of being one of A. Rods traing Officers when he started his career on the YFD, it was there that are friendship started. Tony was a True Gentleman, True Friend, Geat Firefighter, and one of the most giving people you would ever want to meet. He would do anything for a person in need, and he continued that even on his last day with us. The only thing that brings a sense of compfort to me as I think about my friend is that I know he is in excellent company with all the other Great people taken from us to early. You will truly be missed by the many people that you touched their lives
Good bye MY FRIEND see you again one day.

To all those reading this thread, the banter has been going on since 2002 when a parade invitation was lost in the mail.
Mill Plain started last and it has become a highlight of Mill Plain and Brewster to see what will happen. When you look at the relationship between the two it started in 1945 when Mill Plain was born, some 85 years after Brewster was started.
A brotherhood was formed that still remains today. Eight years ago Mill Plain and Miry Brook started coverinng for Brewster and Mahopac Falls so that they and their families could enjoy themselves at the convention in Lake George and the interaction between them is amazing. We have become one department spanning two states enjoying each other stories and families. Also the residents of Southeast and visitors applaud like crazy when they come through.
This is written by the past chief of Mill Plain who helped start it and who is now a captain and vice president of Brewster. As for mill plain and all the rest when stuff happens they are top notch organizations and i am proud to have been a member of three out of four of them so heres to brewsterfalls ,mill plain and miry brook, some of us salute you

Sonny, you really need to lighten up! This wasn't an annual inspection or an emergency response. It was a parade and they were having fun, as they should. I thought it was funny and I knew none of the back story or the relationship between Mill Plains and Brewster (thanks FitzJr for sharing).
I think the "skit" as fitz described it is a pleasant distraction from the line of trucks and the rigid formations of uniforms. So people may not have known the inner workings of the relationship between the departments but they had to laugh at the folly and the departure from the norm.
Personally, I'm glad someone was having fun! "LIKE" to the boys (and girls) from Mill Plains.

    Hello Christopher,
It may not feel like it now, because we all know that you are hurting and in pain, but guess what? You actually have a great advantage over other kids your age! You will grow up to be a stronger person, and it will help you as you pursue your goal of being a firefighter! Yes that's right.
You see, when you are tested like this, it builds courage and strength that few other people possess. Chris, most people don't have the advantage of being so strong in character at such a young age. We know you may not feel that way right now, and we want you to know that all of us here; the firefighters, the paramedics, the police, the emergency technicians, the dispatchers, all of us are pulling for you as you get through the tough fight you have been fighting. We also know you are going to make it! And your dreams of being a firefighter can come true in one way or another.
Guys like you are a shining example of what a good firefighter is made of. Guys like you never cease to amaze me.
    Strength.
    Honor.
    Duty.
All of these qualities you already possess, and we support you and your goals when you get through what you have to do.
Stay strong Christopher as you get through this difficult time. I really look forward to hearing how things are going for you. You're going to be just fine buddy.

Not being too familiar with the operations and manpower availability of that area, other than opservations driving through, I think they would know what's best. Having driven through today, I noticed the Village of WF had a large amount of 3 & 4 story buildings, judging from the air conditioners and shades, occupied on floors. There were even more 2 1/2 story, probably balloon frame houses. Although neither have been updated recently, according to their websites, NHFD had 6 structure fire responses in 3 years. Two were mutual aid, and the remaining 4, they had pictures of three, all in ranch homes. Hughsonville had 41 listed in a 5 years span, with only 10 in their own jurisdiction.
The point I am trying to make is, WFFD had what looked to me as plenty of "need" for an immediate responding aerial. THe other 2, not so much. While I agree that an TL is a great tool at a strip-mall fire, of which the others had plenty of strip malls, there doesn't seem to be much of that going on in that area. A Fire Department has to evaluate their own area, and purchase what THEY need, not buy stuff just because they have the tax income and want to pad their numbers by doing more mutual aid.
I would think people hanging out the 3rd and 4th floor windows would be a need for a more immediate availabiltity than a storefront in a strip mall where you are going to set up for master stream only, to save more storefronts from a fire in a building designed to burn to the ground anyway.
Hope I make some sense, and it's only my opinion.

While I agree...this may be a great time to look at the big picture...New Hamburg is literally right down the street with a badass tower ladder....Hughsonville is not far with another tower ladder....PECO is a bit further with a quint/stick....Rombout is further yet, but still closer than most with another tower ladder...and then there is Croft with a stick....let's face it - southern Dutchess is nicely covered with truck companies.
While it is needed, is it really NEEDED?
Don't get me wrong - I know a bunch of guys from Wappingers - and they are among the finest to serve. Some truly great firemen come from down there.

Why does it matter aside from maybe helping figure out what is wrong with the patient? Forget about how its just wrong to treat someone differently based upon a medical condition, what if they don't know they're carrying some disease. Everyone gets treated the same unless I suspect an infection requiring droplet precautions.

For all of us here who care, who feel, please take care of yourselves now. Don't be tempted to grab the beers or anything else to drown the pain away.
Talk about it. Write about it. Share your feelings with those of us here who care for you and want you to be okay. That's what this site is about. A Fraternity of sorts. Times like these are the most testing for everybody. Talk about it at the firehouse, the precinct, the ambulance quarters.
Lenny got called home to God way too early, yet he obviously died doing what he wanted to be doing. Living his life the way he wanted it to be. Quite an adventurist it seems. I imagine he was quite ecstatic to reach that peak, to see that view, to be closer to his God.
Our board has another hero now. And his name is Lenny Joyner. God Rest In Peace.
    Edit: Last name proper spelling.
