Recently losing 110 lbs and developing healthy habits, I have become passionate for health and fitness as well as an advocate for firefighter, ems, and law enforcement health and wellness. As a health coach and in the process of obtaining my  personal trainer certificate, I would like to share fitness ideas with others. What are members doing to obtain optimal health? Cardio? Weight training? Both? How much time do you dedicate to working out? What about diet? What are you eating? Do your departments have exercise facilities or gym memberships? Do we overlook our own health and wellbeing as we care for others?

One of LAFD's new Pierce tillers, part of a 10 year contract for 40 of them.

Of the seven that have been delivered so far, none have accepted for delivery, and one was put into service for about a day and then returned to the dealer. The trucks are having numerous issues, and quite possibly will be sent back to Pierce in Wisconsin to deal with the issues. The trucks have been sitting at the dealer for several months now.

There maybe a lot more to thus story. At end of the article. It says the people did not trust the fire department and the city counsel to make the repairs to the fire house.

Sad for some involved. However it seems like the smart, fiscal thing to do.

The article stated that there was a concern that there wouldn't be enough volunteers in the future. Why spend all that money if there aren't enough members to sufficiently operate?

Consolidate with surrounding depts and let the Roosevelt membership join.

Again, I'm sure this hurts for the members. But if it's what is right for the community, then so be it.

Why should a town of 900 people, and not even 2 square miles have its own FD ? Great merge it with nearby departments and let the members join other departments in the area.

Looking at this i have to wonder, do they staff the firehouse now? Like are there 4-6 guys per rig in the station 24/7? That to me would be what that sign is saying. I know in some towns (not Westchester), the house is manned at all times. There are bunks and rooms where guys sleep the over night. I have a feeling that while their hearts are in the right place, they are not giving the people of Port Chester what they deserve. I don;t think we have to wait for someone to die or be seriously hurt to start doing what is right. Letting guys go solely to help a line in the budget was not a good move. As a career guy i am also offended that they say they are "Professionally Staffed". This is not their job. This is what they volunteer to do. The guys who's profession this was were let go in the most egregious manner possible.

Thank you very much for posting this story. I would like to pass it on as well.

Today, Saturday March 25, 2017, in carrying on with the tradition of George, the Steinbrenner Family will open Yankee Stadium for FDNY/EMS EMT Yadiro Arroyo's funeral logistics.

Arroyo, 44, was killed last week by a schizophrenic, career criminal., who tried to steal her ambulance and ran her down with her own vehicle.

For One Day, Yankee Stadium will be the House that Yadira built.

The Bronx Bombers will provide free parking today (Saturday 3/25/2017), for some of the 10,000 people expected to be at slain EMT Yadira Arroy's funeral.

EMTs and Medics from around the nation are expected in the city to honor the mother of FIVE.

The Yankees will cover the cost of opening and staffing parking lots, including those opposite the stadium, gates 4 and 8, for the roughly 5,000 cars and buses expected.

The Yankees arranged for the post funeral meal with refreshments and food served in the ball parks Great Hall between 1 pm and 4:45 pm.

Here we Remember FDNY/EMS EMT Yadira Arroya, who spent 14 years saving lives in the City of New York. May she Rest in Peace and THANK YOU for your dedicated years of service to the citizens and visitors of New York City.

Last Sunday,  I had the opportunity to look over and photograph this unique and impressive rig!

2016 Peterbilt 567  with a Century 50 Ton Rotator (can be remote controlled) and body, 10KW generator, and air compressor syste,m, amongst many other customizations.

This rig replaces a similar rig, a 2003 Peterbilt/Century, which will become a fully equipped spare. The spare is replacing the former spare, which will be kept in the USAR caches.

Thanks again to the crew at Station 56 and the HR56 guys!

And to think this piece of sh#t pleaded not guilty!!!! What a joke. Just put him away for life or give him the death penalty and save us the time and money of a trial.(either way we will be paying )  So now a homeless career criminal will have a roof over his head and 3 meals a day while 5 kids are without a mom who was WORKING to save lives and support her family. Sounds like the piece of sh#t will benefit from his actions.
  21. BFD1054 liked a post in a topic by lt411 in $4.5 million annual bill for FDNY at Trump Tower
Anytime we had the President stay in the city, there was a detail assigned to the hotel at night. Usually POTUS stayed at the Waldorf Astoria (not anymore, since a Chinese company bought the hotel recently) when he stayed in Manhattan (obviously Trump will stay at his "place"). We hired manpower for an engine and a ladder, and we staged in a hotel room one floor below POTUS, with standpipe "roll-ups" (hose) and truck tools and PPE/SCBA. Also there were 2 F/Fs stationed at the fire command station /alarm panel. It was an OT night tour, but not as nice as being in your own station. One night tour I worked the Presidential detail, we had a member of Ladder 2 on the crew. Since it was his company's  administrative/building inspection district, he knew the fire safety director. He asked him to have the hotel staff bring up as many folding cots as could be fit into the room, so we could all have a "resting place" during the night. The beds filled the whole room- when there was a smoke detector activation at 0200,  and the brothers at the alarm panel called up to us, it was chaos as  11 guys tried to find their bunker gear and Scotts under the beds! Also, the deputy chief was pissed several days later, when the Waldorf sent the dept. a bill for all the food/snacks ordered from room service and used from the mini-bar. Ah, the good old days!

If I remember correctly SWAT (another show with a horrible remake) featured a couple of characters who were vets.

That being said, I fail to understand why when remakes are made the original is seen as a problem that needs fixing. I also fail to see why so many shows are remade as comedies when they were not comedies to begin with.

Then again, I don't understand remakes at all, I am not a writer but I don't get why nobody seems to be able to write their own story anymore.

Larry Wilcox was a Marine and saw action in Vietnam. His character John Baker was a Vietnam vet and I believe it was the first time in the 80s  for a TV series to have character that was Vietnam vet
