Kudos to them, it looks like the fire eventually went out.

Their uncoordinated approach to ventilate every possible pane of glass on the second floor was very helpful in allowing the fire in the attic to eventually enjoy sufficient oxygen that allowed for the overly abundant display of air horns.

Just imagine what an interior line on the second floor with a few experienced jakes that brought some hooks to open up and apply water from below could have done?

    Thank you for your service!

Wonderful guy and a great Chief Officer, really "into the job" New Rochelle is very fortunate to have Bob Benz in a leadership role.

Excellent interview! You can truly tell how passionate he is about the fire service when he speaks.
Had the honor to have Chief Benz as an instructor once or twice. Truly a great man.

Huh? Why lower the volume when you can just (maybe a law issues) limit the use of the siren to "as needed"? It would seem lowering the volume will result in the siren being ineffective when it's needed (inattentive motorists). I doubt the sirens used in the firetrucks or PD vehicles are any different in output, merely just the use as noted. No doubt this petitioner did not seek any "expert" opinions as to the problem and other solutions.

Another moronic New Yorker without a clue.  Cars and people don't move as it is.  Sounds like a great idea?!?!!!!

And the minute a piece of emergency equipment is delayed to a call............the dopes will sue.

    Stay safe.

Civilian exposure to the audible warning devices of emergency vehicles is of very limited duration. These devices are only in use while the vehicle is en-route to an emergency, meaning the vehicle is moving. So, unless the complainers are keeping pace with and driving alongside the emergency vehicle with their window down rather than pulling to the right side of the road and stopping to allow the emergency vehicle to have the right of way, they are not being injured by the noise, just briefly inconvenienced by it.

Seth.....what went wrong was a lot of people didn't do their jobs.... for what ever the reason...now they play the blame game....(my opinion)

@letsgo1547 The job went fatal and actually there was and engine and a truck from Eastchester. So do you really want to call into question the amount of resources IC requested? Personally I saw pictures from a good friend of mine and the ones posted above and as darkness set in the fire grew in size and multiple master streams needed to be placed into operation. Fairview's ladder had to be moved from behind Scarsdale's truck on the A side of the building to the other road for better placement on the B side of the building. So instead of sitting here and asking if all the resources were necessary why don't you just say "Hey man, tough job, good work." or just sit there and don't say anything.

Great work by this civil service, union mechanic... Too bad smaller departments are forced to rely on private dealers who are not at all in the business of (or interested in) saving fire departments (and taxpayers) money ...

He won't get a raise but he'll be a Deputy Commissioner of Something some day or get jammed up because he makes people look bad (or feel bad about themselves).

    Its odd how that works.

Reports are that BFD was accusing Scott for causing back injuries to the members and wanted Scott to pay the medical costs and disability costs. Apparently wearing the packs without the waist strap puts undue weight on the upper back. Well hello....if you use a product in a way that the manufacturer says you shouldn't, the liability falls on you not the manufacturer

Boston would still be Scott if Scott hadn't just blown them off. From what I hear, MSA was much, much more responsive to their needs during this process.

When my vollie house wanted to replace our packs, we wanted to use Scott through our local dealer we've used for many years and are tremendously happy with their service. However, Scott tried to force us to use a large dealer with locations nationwide that I personally think they have ties with and we haven't had good experience with especially after the sale. We're now considering MSA because we think Scott's regional manager that's been involved will try to steer business and give this national dealer a price advantage over our local guy, and us staying with Scott is based on us staying with our local dealer. Don't get me wrong, we love our Scott SCBA's and I still think they make the best product but who you get after the sale is the most important.

Eliminated. Why? Look at that mileage . Lol not a smart resource for 1 department. Would be smarter for a county (or several departments to share) to purchase and have it be special called by a department when needed. In areas with poor water sources it can be a great resource but it is A Very specific piece of specialty equipment.

  23. fdalumnus liked a post in a topic by 10512 in CT Town Sells Ladder Truck Due To Lack Of Use
The most telling part of the story is the fact they cannot get the manpower to get their equipment out the door.
It is a simple fact that # of runs, need, usage, or any other factor will not change.
