I guess all the firefighters and chiefs on the roof who gave reports and conditions wasn't enough or believeable.

The Westchester Fire Advisory Board is having a quarterly meeting tonight at 4 Dana Road, Valhalla, NY beginning at 7:30 p.m. I expect to see all you Monday Morning Quarterbacks there ready to explain how you'll fix the entire county fire service like you claim you can on here.

I could be wrong but this is already a series it's called "COPS".  and plenty of others have been done.   People either support or us or they don't.  No TV show will change opinions.  And even the ones that support cops don't understand and until you work the streets you never will.

True, but there's no guarantee on how fit that 19 year old will be in 15 years. There's a sufficient number of firefighters that are or were fit enough to work until mandatory retirement at 65 (in some states) that an employer can't legitimately reject an applicant (if fit enough currently) because he/she might not be fit enough to reach full retirement eligibility, especially when you already have no age restrictions for the position.

Non-Emergency, Rescue & Engine. This gives you two meters and adequate manpower to fulfill the Two In, Two Out. We used to send Rescue only until we had more than one incident where a CO Detector was actually a smoke detector.
CO w/ Symptoms get's Two Engines, Truck, Rescue & EMS. This provides units to locate a source, vent the premises and assist EMS with removing / assisting patients.

Interviews were held this week for 60 Control. I am told we are hiring five. Good luck to all.

Seth, my friend, that right there is the multi-million dollar question in Westchester Co.
One could just as easily ask (and no one jump down my throat here, please), Why does Harrison have/need 1 PD, 1 EMS, and 3 FD? You gotta figure that there could be cost savings there too. Or Town of Greenbugh, too?

I'm surprised that anyone would have any issues when it comes to safety and health, especially in the firehouse where people might spend a majority of their time. There might be more to this story then what we know.

The people in the district aren't 'Brother's' they are people elected by the town. They dont give a flying fluck about the members.
  13. CM36 liked a post in a topic by Remember585 in Croton FAST Ladder Ops At Ossining Fire
Ossining FD deserves credit for throwing the ladders as well. They're among a small percentile around the county that has strong Truck Company presence at a fire scene - whether it's throwing portable ladders or getting the Truck into position. I actually missed this fire, but can tell you I am proud of the guys for always doing the right thing.
Ironically, Monday night's FAST drill was a review of throwing ladders...

  15. CM36 liked a post in a topic by Remember585 in Agencies in Westchester that have their own dispatch?
The only Fire Departments NOT dispatched by 60 Control full-time (at least the last time I worked) were Dobbs Ferry, Elmsford, Fairview, Hartsdale, Hastings, Irvington, Mount Vernon, Ossining, Somers, Tarrytown, White Plains, Yonkers & Montrose VA.
EMS Agenices that do not get full-time dispatch from 60 Control are White Plains, Yonkers, Mount Vernon, Yorktown Medics, Ossining Medics, Mount Pleasant Medics, Montrose VA, Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry, Elmsford, Greenburgh PD, Harrison, Hastings, Irvington, Sleepy Hollow, Ossining, Pleasantville, Port Chester/Rye/Rye Brook, Scarsdale, Somers, Tarrytown, Valhalla & Yorktown.
Why an agency doesn't seek county dispatch - that's their choice. In many cases departments have valid reasons to stay with their own way of doing things. For others, it's a lack of understanding the advantages offered to them.

Maybe some of the agencies in the county running 2, 3 or 4 rigs that they can't staff is looking to offload something for a decent price...
  17. CM36 liked a post in a topic by Remember585 in Westchester County PD New Marine Unit
I can say honestly that the WCPD Marine Unit(s) assigned to the Hudson River seem to be there almost anytime there's an incident on that river. Is it staffed full time - probably not. But it is out there when it's needed (or so it seems).
Nice looking vessel, good luck with it.

If you are worried about the shirt under your gear melting, you have bigger things to worry about. Like your facepiece melting or inhalation burns.
Its also not just a comfort thing, its also the lubricity that the garment provides. Lubricity is the ease of motion when wearing the garment, directly relates to how silky the facecloth of the liner system is. Not all FD's gear have a ton of lubricity so an UA style garment makes up for where the TOG lacks.
I've been exercising wearing a UA style shirt and gym shorts when the tones go off and I don't think twice. You will be living in a world of S for the rest of your life even if you survive a fire that is so hot it will melt the shirt to your body.
As for the FR ones, they are out there. I was gifted one made by Lion which I like during the Summer. Not as silky as an UA style but it has the anti stink materials in the design. I know MSA use to carry ones, but I think they may have sold with their LE/Military division of ballistics. I have also seen Power Dry FR shirts on Wildland Warehouse's website.
